Oak Mountain kicked off the 2022 season Friday night, Aug. 19 under the lights at Heardmont Stadium with a 23-14 victory over the Northridge Jaguars.The Eagles used a fast start on the ground, led by Trey Vassell, who finished the night with 117 yards and two touchdowns to help pace the team offensively en route to the 1-0 start. The Eagles ran for 142 yards in the win, while the defense limited Northridge to 269 yards for the game. Oak Mountain’s special teams also made a critical difference with three key plays throughout making the difference. O’dell finished with three completions in his first start and totaled 65 yards. Garrett Murphy led the way for Oak Mountain defensively with seven total tackles, while he also kicked every extra point and kickoff. Devan Moss finished with 6.5 tackles, while Hunter Cox and Davis Coggin finished with 5.5 and five, respectively. The Eagles will be back in action at home Friday against county rival Pelham.


Volleyball

The lady eagles had a great start to the season with a sweep on opening night. After the freshman and JV teams both collected wins over Briarwood and Bayside respectively, the varsity girls clinched a five set thriller over 6A number one Bayside Admirals. After going down in the first set 32-30 the girls rallied back to dominate the second. Bayside won a tight third set before Oak Mountain clinched the final two sets to earn a big win and move to 1-0. The girls return to the court Tuesday night as they travel to Hoover.
